I can’t find the words to say, ‘I belong to you’ || Smillan

“Same thing,” Matt sighed, rolling his eyes, but smiled as soon as Karen kissed him. She always knew how to shut him up. Matt pulled on her arm as they got out to the hallway, pulling her to him and kissing Karen again, just a bit longer. He pulled away, exhaling slowly. “I love you, you know that?”

Sometimes, it felt like Karen didn’t know. Maybe because Matt felt he never said it enough. And even the words seemed to fail at encompassing how much he felt for her.

Karen smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck. “I love you too.” She said nudging their noses together and then pressing her lips against his. “But if we stay up here any longer, we may be forced to order take out, so come on.”

She chuckled and pulled away from him, settling on holding his hand as they walked downstairs. She grabbed a couple of plates and put the potatoes on them. Then she cooked the steak and served it. She poured a glass of wine for Matt and a glass of orange juice for herself and then carried things one by one to the table. Karen lit a couple candles and smiled at Matt. “Come on dear, your dinner is served.”

Matt groaned, regretting suggesting this. He really was rubbish at building things. After about an hour though, him and Karen actually managed to accomplish something. There was a lot of bickering and a few arguments but by the time the timer went off, the crib just needed the mobile on it.

He stood up, smiling at it. “There,” Matt said, ” Now all we have to do is paint and find every other single piece of furniture. When’s your baby shower anyways? Don’t we get free stuff?”

Karen reached for Matt’s hand to get herself up. She put a hand on her back and carefully got up. Her body felt stiff and sore from sitting down for so long, but she smiled at Matt anyway and rested a hand on her stomach.

We don’t get free stuff, Aidan does.” She said as she patted his shoulder. “Come on dear, we’ll feed you, get you in the shower and then bed. You have to film tomorrow.” Karen kissed him gently as she passed him and waddled to the door of the nursery.

Matt tilted his head slightly, but put his arms around Karen and smiled. “I can think of quite a few things you can do with me,” he teased.

He followed Karen upstairs, smiling sheepishly as they walked into the room and she saw his progress. “I tried, at least!” Matt argued, then moved over towards her and sat down on the ground, taking two pieces of the furniture and looking towards Karen, “Fine. I’ll do the work. But if it ends up looking more like a chair or something, you’ve only got yourself to blame for making me do this in the first place!”

Karen gave him a look. “If you actually listen to me and don’t argue, it will turn out perfectly.” She retorted grabbing a bag of nails and a screwdriver. “Okay, so, the smaller bits are the legs, I think…” She looked back at the instructions and frowned.

Matt smiled, doing exactly as Karen asked. He sat down at one of the stools and leaned forward, resting his head on his elbows. Watching Karen cook was strange still. He was used to her being absolutely horrible at it. Maybe Matt should try… Daisy had always tried teaching him, but he really couldn’t master anything other than salad and slightly burnt pancakes. And that was at his best.

When she came over, Matt pursed his lips thoughtfully. “Well,” he said, “You can come upstairs and help me with that crib.” Karen had given him the task of setting up Aidan’s bed, but he hadn’t had any patience for the directions, and Matt had given up, his attention diverted ten minutes into the project. And the pieces were still laying on the floor, scattered and untouched.

Karen sighed and rolled her eyes. She couldn’t say that she wasn’t surprised to hear that the crib still hadn’t been put together. She pushed his fringe out of his eyes. He needed a haircut, but she didn’t want him to get one. “Matthew Robert Smith,” she smiled. “What ever am I to do with you?” She chuckled and kissed him.

She grabbed his hand and walked him upstairs to Aidan’s room. She opened the door and groaned. “Matt, I expected that you had done more than this.” She sighed, walking in and picking up the discarded instructions. Karen read through them. “I hope you know that you’re going to be doing all of the work because I’m pregnant and I cannot.” She smirked at him and sat down.

“Shut up,” Matt sniffed, “He likes me better, of course he does! I’m the one that spent the last hour chasing him!”

He wasn’t surprised though. Liking Karen wasn’t that hard at all. Especially with the way she looked on that couch, her red hair spread out on the couch around her head. Matt watched Albert lick her face and laughed. “Back off, Einstein. She’s mine.” He picked the puppy off the ground, scratching his head playfully as he followed Karen into the kitchen. “I’d ask if you need any help, but that might have the reverse effect…”

Karen chuckled and set about to start peeling potatoes. “Well, Matthew, you can help by sitting down and being out of my way.” She smiled at him and Albert. “You’re also going to drop him if you don’t support his legs, honestly Smith.” She teased playfully, pointing the knife at Matt and Albert and raising an eyebrow.

She peeled a few potatoes and then cut them up. She seasoned them and stuffed them in the oven. Karen set the timer and looked at the clock on the wall. “We’ve got a while, what do you want to do?”

“Good, because that really would be awkward if it was just me, then,” Matt laughed, kissing her nose. He knew that neither wanted to move, but his stomach was starting to rumble and Albert’s whining was starting to get on his nerves. He got up on his knees, stretching a tiny bit, then got up and slipped his boxers back on.

Matt let Albert in, who immediately ran towards Karen and jumped on the couch with her.

Karen smiled and got dressed. She cuddled a frenzied Albert, who laid his head on her lap and watched Matt through his gorgeous bright blue eyes. She chuckled. “I don’t know what you did, Matthew, but I think Albert likes me more.” She stuck her tongue out at him. “Poor darling is tired. Look at his little face, awww.” Karen scratched in between Albert’s ears.

She shifted Albert off her lap and walked, or waddled depending on one’s opinion, to the kitchen. Albert happily followed her and Karen just laughed. She washed her hands and went about preparing dinner.

Karen giggled. The couch was a little small to fit both of them side by side, but she didn’t care. She never wanted to move. She played with Matt’s hair as she listened to him breathe and Albert scratch at the door.

“That’s good.” She smiled. “Because it would be kind of awkward if this was one-sided. And, for the record, I love you too.”
